5G Network launch in india

5G Network in India: India’s wait for 5G may finally get over in 2022- at least in some cities, to be precise. As per the Department of Telecom (DoT), 5G telecom services will be rolled out in selected cities in India next year. Telecom service providers Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, and Vodafone Idea have set up 5G trials sites in some cities across the country.

“These Metros and big cities would be the first places for the launch of 5G services in the country next year,” as per DoT.

13 Cities in India may get 5G network launch next year

In September 2021, DoT sent a reference to the industry regulator Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), seeking recommendations for the auction of spectrum identified for International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT)/ 5G about a price, band plan, block size, the quantum of range to be auctioned and associated conditions for auction of spectrum in 526-698 MHz, 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz, 2500 MHz, 3300-3670 MHz and 24.25-28.5GHz bands for IMT/5G.

Frequency & Speed:

  • 5G mainly works in 3 bands, low, mid, and high-frequency spectrum for those unaware. In the soft band spectrum, the speed is limited to 100 Mbps. On the other hand, the mid-band range offers higher rates than the low band but has limitations in terms of coverage area and penetration of signals.
  • Internet speed in the high-band spectrum goes up to 20 Gbps. The highest internet speed in 4G has been recorded at 1Gbps.

Here’s over to the names of these cities following below:

  • Delhi
  • Gurugram
  • Bangalore
  • Kolkata
  • Mumbai
  • Lucknow and Chandigarh
  • Jamnagar
  • Ahmedabad and Gandhi Nagar cities
  • Hyderabad
  • Chennai
  • Pune

1. Delhi

Bharti Airtel conducted India’s first 5G trial in Bhaipur Bramanan village, located on the outskirts of the Delhi-NCR region. The 5G site infrastructure was powered by Ericsson’s 3GPP-compliant 5G radio. It was carried out in the 3,500 MHz bands and existing FDD spectrum band.

3. Bangalore

In November this year, Airtel started 5G trials in Bengaluru in the 3,500 MHz band spectrum allotted by the DoT for practices, sources told TOI. Airtel plans to pilot many use cases in Bengaluru in partnership with Accenture, AWS, Cisco, Ericsson, Google Cloud, Nokia, TCS, Apollo Hospitals, Flipkart, and several manufacturing companies. These tested solutions will include intelligent factories, innovative healthcare, quality inspection, digital twin, connected frontline workforce, and AR/VR-based use cases.

4. Kolkata

Bharti Airtel conducted India’s first 5G trials on the 700MHz band in Kolkata last month. The test was done in standalone mode using Nokia’s 5G gear, including AirScale radios and standalone core on the outskirts of Kolkata, as per DoT guidelines. The company said that it could achieve high-speed wireless coverage of 40km between two 5G sites.

5. Mumbai

Both Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel conducted 5G trials in Mumbai in June and July. Reliance Jio reportedly used made-in-India equipment to run the trials, both in mid and mm wavebands.

Airtel also did 5G trials in Phoenix Mall in Mumbai’s Lower Parel area. The company used Nokia’s gear and claimed that it could achieve a download speed of 1.2Gbps with ultra-low latency and 850Mbps upload speed during the trials.
